I have always been interested in human development. Who were we before we became modern humans? I did a special project during my high school education (many years ago) called "The Origin of Humans" and have read all the books by Jean M. Auel and "The Clan of the Cave Bear." How could we develop into what we are today? What will we look like as a human species in 40,000 years? The thought is dizzying and a little frightening at the same time. Will we become less capable of handling dangers and difficult tasks now that we have so many aids? As a dentist, I see that we are getting smaller jaws and worse space for the eighth tooth, i.e., wisdom teeth. Will we become less capable of being the predators we once were and more dependent on various tools that continuously keep appearing? Were we happier when we "only" had to think about survival and the safety of our family and didn't have to struggle to succeed in a career, have a beautiful home, and an impressive title?
